Peptides and Professional Sports: WADA Anti-Doping Rules
1 min read

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) maintains a strict list of substances prohibited in sports competition. Several peptides are included.
PEPTIDES BANNED BY WADA
The list of prohibited substances notably includes:
- Growth hormones and their releasing factors
- EPO mimetic peptides
- Certain growth factors (IGF-1, MGF, etc.)
- Metabolic modulators
BPC-157 STATUS
BPC-157 is not explicitly named on the WADA list. However, its use raises questions:
- It could be considered a "prohibited method" if it enhances recovery
- Its status remains ambiguous depending on federations
RISKS FOR ATHLETES
- Detection: detection methods are constantly evolving
- Contamination: unregulated products may contain prohibited substances
- Sanctions: violations can result in 2 to 4 year suspensions
RECOMMENDATIONS
For professional athletes:
- Systematically check the status of any substance on the WADA website
- Consult national anti-doping authorities
- Favor certified and tested products
- When in doubt, abstain
Amateur athletes are generally not subject to the same controls, but official competitions may impose tests.
